College of Languages Organizes an International Symposium on Literature and Culture

The College of Languages organized an international symposium titled "Literature as a Bridge Between Cultures" on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Conference Hall of the University of Duhok. The event was conducted by the English Department in collaboration with the Ararat Technical Institute in Duhok and Salahaddin University-Erbil.

The symposium commenced with a keynote speech by Dr. Bakhtiar Sajjadi from the University of Kurdistan in Sanandaj, East Kurdistan. In his address, Dr. Sajjadi highlighted critical approaches and emphasized the importance of giving more attention to criticism within Kurdish literature.

Subsequently, a panel discussion was held, moderated by Dr. Marwan Abdi, Head of the English Department, covering four main themes:

  • The first theme: Presented by Dr. Lulav Hassan, a lecturer of English Literature at the College of Languages, who discussed the vital role of translation in cultural transmission and understanding.
  • The second theme: Presented by Dr. Shereen Saadullah, a lecturer of English Literature at Salahaddin University, who spoke about the reflection of global and social issues in literature.
  • The third theme: Presented by Ms. Huda Salih, a literature lecturer at the College of Basic Education, who focused on the importance of reading literary works to enhance critical thinking.
  • The fourth theme: Presented by Mr. Mohammed Khurshidi, a literature lecturer at the Ararat Institute, who explored the future of literature in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
